Navajo Name---Tse Nitsaa Deez'ahi (Large Rock Protruding)

Rock Point Chapter

The first settler called the community "Beesh ii ahi"
(standing metal) because of a windmill that was in the
Area. Later, many local people were hired to build the
community irrigation and diversion dam. The dam was built
using manpower and teams of horses. It is said that the
people were paid $1.00 to $1.50 a day to work on the
project. The chapter acquired equipment - a grader, a
front-end/back-end loader, and a farm tractor for use in
assisting farming families with earthwork and irrigation
systems. The chapter name was changed to reflect a nearby
rock formation and to date the chapter is known as "Rock
Point".
